As our world becomes evermore connected, often when we first join a social media site, there’s this extreme vulnerability and rawness that goes with our first time posting.
We’re insecure, self-doubting, timid even. We want to try it, but we’re not sure how it all works.
We want to make a post, tweet something, maybe even contribute something, but we’re unsure—of ourselves and of the new social media. We want to test it out, ask: “Is this for me?”
So we write those famous first lines, saying, “This is me.” We put it out there into the proverbial void, hoping that it worked and that a familiar face will greet us and say, “Hi,” back. “Glad you joined.” “Welcome.”
We lose our naiveté, our social virginity, so to speak.
Once we start, the timidity wanes; we reach out more; we enjoy it.
Well, lest it go without saying, “I’m new here.” “This is my first post.” “I’ve never done this before…”
What did you feel like the first time you posted something for your friends or the world to see? What insecurities did you have?
