Teaching on the book of Revelation has stirred up my love for people from other cultures. I love to share with others God’s vision for his people. These following verses describe the people of God. They are from every nation, every tribe, every people group, and they speak every language.
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
-Revelation 7:9-10
Riding the subway in New York City, I used to think, “This is a slice of what heaven will look like, visually.” (Not the grime, but the faces. The people.) The travelers are from every country. Our skin is every color. We speak every language.

I grew up in a white only (not by law, but by money) part of Dallas. Everyone in my school was white. Everyone in my church was white. It wasn’t until I moved to New York City that I received a cultural education. It wasn’t until I worshiped with people from other countries that I began to see more of what God sees. I began to see people for who they are, not what they look like. I began to value people who aren’t like me. I began to see them as God’s people too. I was one of them, one of God’s people, from every tribe.
God gives us a vision of what his people look like, what the crowd in heaven looks like. But his people aren’t only in heaven; they are here, living in our midst. They are in other countries; they are in this country. I’m awed at the breadth of God’s beautiful people. I’m awed to be considered one among them. Each is created in God’s image. Each. Not just me. Not just “my people,” but all people. God doesn’t look like me, but I like him; each of us created in his image.
When you look out and see all the different people among you, do you see what God sees? Do you love those that God has created?

What a great way to look at the world! I never thought of heaven that way, but its true. I love the picture, it’s worth a thousand words. Thanks.
Thanks Cam, I’m glad new pictures can help us better see the true things of God.
It’s wonderful to catch a wee glimpse of our heavenly home, for sure! I look forward to being able to understand all languages, and to knowing people from every nation. Worship will be a glorious experience, for sure!
Absolutely Mary! I love how God shows us pictures of our heavenly home and gives us eyes to see them.
It will be fun to understand all languages. I never really thought of that. It makes all the time I’ve spent studying other languages seem like work. I’m certainly glad for the ability to learn them though!
