How often have I read something and thought, “Yep. That describes it perfectly”?
I feel a sense of “this writer gets it,” or “this is so true!”
I felt that today as I read,

“Help, LORD, for the godly are no more;
the faithful have vanished from among men.
Everyone lies to his neighbor;
their flattering lips speak with deception.”
(Psalm 12:1-2)
At a gut level, it feels to be a true indictment of our country’s culture as a whole.
We are not truthful or upright.
We speak what serves us best.
I am not saying there are no godly people. I know plenty.
But in large part, the statement felt true in my bones about today.
And then I stopped, because it wasn’t written today, but around 3,000 years ago.
Meaning the writer felt it then about that day.
And yet (oh, how it makes my heart sad), it is still true today.
We are not worse than they were, we are the same.
The Bible speaks truth now as it did then, when it was written.

That’s a thoughtful post, Keeley. Thanks for sharing. I remember a professor of mine once said, “We haven’t gotten any worse. There’s just more of us now to do more harm.” It may seem like a bleak outlook on humanity, but it’s true nonetheless. I’m grateful for the Incarnation. That God became like us in the person of Jesus. He’s the One who saves us from ourselves.
